EDUCATION AND PRACTICE
Stephen D Knowlton, MD
FAMILY PHYSICIAN
I am a family medicine physician located in Reidsville. I have been in practice here since 1983. I admitted and followed patients at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital for over 30 years, but since 2015 I have focused on office practice, treating outpatient problems and trying to prevent major medical problems.
I was born in Virginia but grew up in New Jersey, attending high school in Plainfield, New Jersey. I attended Princeton University as a merit scholar from 1965-1969, was involved as a high school biology teacher and then a diabetes researcher until 1974, then went to medical school, graduating from Tufts Medical School in 1978. I did my internship and residency in family medicine at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, NC. I am currently board certified in family medicine.
My greatest interest in medicine is to help people prevent medical disease. I have an excellent nurse practitioner who works with me to accomplish this. We also treat urgent medical problems and ongoing internal medicine, gynecologic, dermatologic and orthopedic problems. Our emphasis is on adult medical problems but I also treat defined pediatric problems.
I am fortunate to have an excellent staff. I have a nice blend of younger computer savvy staff and older experienced employees. Together we are happy to help you stay healthy or diagnose and treat your medical issues!
